A Malay play with English surtitles is taken from the book "Anthology of ASEAN drama" written by NAC Cultural Medallion winner, Nadiputra
"2000" is a painting of our lives; a painting that is filled with
appearances, written and hidden, during a life time.
One who is old with age holds an obsolete book, and is still strong
enough to enter God's pathway, despite his feeble self. He hopes to
read and understand the book and the world. The remnants of his life
are proof of the fragility of time, and each second influences his
sense of his self and his world. He yearns to filter his heart and
embark on the stratum of the world.
Two adolescents run into the old man and are being dragged into his
life odyssey. The old man attempts to expose the truth of a woman whom
he meets on his journey.
The remains of the lives of the old man, the two youths as well as the
woman are similar- but restricted of the foresight that is engraved in
the pages of the book. The book becomes a canvas filled with
embellished words, giving an image to the woman who has been stripped
off all appearances. The man makes the book a source of reflection,
where the two adolescents, too, are stripped off their appearances,
without their knowledge.
"2000" persists, and every drip of paint captures the essence of time,
exposing every page that is written and hidden.
